Job Summary

Under moderate supervision, provides building and office equipment maintenance services. This classification belongs to TCU Family Group C - Custodial.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Moves and arranges furniture and office equipment
  • Sets up and reconfigures cubicle furniture, including desks, walls, and partitions
  • Performs minor non-technical repairs to office equipment and furniture
  • Receives and acknowledges receipt of equipment and furniture
  • Reports maintenance, janitorial, and security problems to General Services Supervisor
  • Orders and acquires supplies and parts
  • Arranges conference rooms for various meetings
  • Provides an accurate furniture inventory when removing or adding furniture in furniture storage rooms
  • Assembles small furniture such as mail carts, side tables, and white boards
  • Assigns pool car vehicles, maintains records of vehicle repairs and servicing, allocates parking spaces in Gateway Building, validates parking tickets, and maintains records of usage
  • Travels to various sites to pick up or deliver office equipment, supplies, and furniture
  • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of (defined as a learned body of information that is required for and applied in the performance of job tasks)

  • Building and office equipment maintenance work

  • Vehicle operation rules and regulations

  • Small hand tools usage and safety

  • Basic recordkeeping

  • Applicable business software applications


Skill in (defined as the proficient manual, verbal, or mental utilization of data, people, or things)

  • Making adjustments and repairs on equipment and furniture

  • Safely using small hand tools

  • Reading blueprints

  • Communicating effectively with others

  • Interacting professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives


Ability to (defined as a present competence to perform an observable behavior or produce an observable result)

  • Safely operate a forklift

  • Meet tight time constraints and deadlines

  • Follow verbal and written instructions

  • Travel to offsite locations

  • Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications

A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:

  • Two years of relevant experience performing building and equipment maintenance duties


Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements

  • Valid California Class C Driver License

  • Valid Forklift Certification

  • Must wear approved safety shoes and equipment whenever on duty

  • Requires lifting and moving of furniture and equipment
