Job Summary
Under moderate supervision, performs a combination of custodial and warehouse duties, including cleaning, maintaining, stocking, and transporting materials at the central warehouse.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Organizes, sweeps and scrubs floors, shelves, and shop areas; maintains clean work area
  • Sorts, bails, and properly disposes waste -materials
  • Ensures all equipment and tools utilized are clean and in proper operation
  • Restocks supplies as necessary
  • Operates Metro vehicle to pick up and deliver materials, supplies, furniture, and equipment
  • Operates a forklift to lift and move drums, parts, glass, and other materials, and load and unload supplies from all Metro vehicles
  • Completes reports pertaining to scrap material and waste oil
  • Distributes inter-office mail
  • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic warehousing and delivery procedures
  • Vehicle operations and safety
  • Safety rules related to warehouse and custodial work

Skill in (defined as the proficient manual, verbal, or mental utilization of data, people, or things)
  • Communicating effectively with others
  • Safely operating a forklift and Metro vehicles
  • Interacting professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives
  • Identifying safety hazards and taking proper steps to address

Ability to (defined as a present competence to perform an observable behavior or produce an observable result)
  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Lift, stock, and transport materials
  • Travel to offsite locations
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English
Minimum Qualifications
A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:

Education
  • None Required

Experience
  • Six months of relevant experience performing janitorial/custodial or warehouse duties, including operation of a forklift

Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements
  • Valid California Class C Driver License
  • Possession of a forklift certification/license or the ability to obtain a forklift certification/license within the first two weeks assigned to the Utility "A"/TCU job classification
  • Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
