Job Summary
Under moderate supervision, operates computer or word processing equipment to input, edit, and print documents.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operates word processing equipment and/or a personal computer to input, edit, and print documents
  • Proofreads and corrects all text for accurate spelling, typing, grammar, and formatting
  • Communicates with document originators to explain word processing capabilities and to ensure that work is done to the satisfaction of the originator
  • Determines order in which documents are processed to ensure timely and efficient workflow
  • Maintains confidentiality of documents produced
  • Provides other clerical support to office staff
  • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of (defined as a learned body of information that is required for and applied in the performance of job tasks)
  • Help desk procedures
  • Major applications of the specified word processing system
  • General office practices and procedures
  • Good oral and written communications
  • Standard business English and formats
  • Applicable business software applications

Skill in (defined as the proficient manual, verbal, or mental utilization of data, people, or things)
  • Editing, combining, printing, and electronically storing text on the specified word processing equipment and/or a personal computer
  • Proofreading and correcting text for accurate spelling, typing, punctuation, grammar, and formatting
  • Utilizing a help desk call tracking system
  • Analyzing situations, identifying problems, and recommending solutions
  • Communicating effectively orally and in writing
  • Typing 40 net words per minute

Ability to (defined as a present competence to perform an observable behavior or produce an observable result)
  • Distribute pagers and cellular phones
  • Think and act independently
  • Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Deal tactfully and effectively with supervisors, other Metro personnel, and the public as required
  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English
Minimum Qualifications
A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:

Education
  • None required

Experience
  • Six months of relevant experience operating the specified word processing equipment and/or personal computer; OR six months of relevant experience performing clerical work and a certificate of completion of a training program for the specified equipment and/or software
