Job Specification
Works closely with Chief Safety Officer to develop and implement Metro′s System Security and Law Enforcement programs to include Metro Transit Security, Contract Compliance, Physical Security and Emergency Management in line with the riding public’s safety in a transit environment.
Supports the Chief Safety Officer in the establishment and development of policies, procedures, goals, performance measures, and strategies for System Security and Law Enforcement
Provides policy direction to assigned departments, directing the establishment of goals, major priorities, and advising in the development of strategies, accountability and resolution of major problems
Leads the performance of Los Angeles Metro’s security staff and the services performed by consultants and contractors to ensure successful implementation and completion of security projects
Directs the establishment and implementation of long-range System Security and Public and employee safety goals, financial strategies, budget, plans, and priorities, and establishes department standards of performance
Collaborates with the Chief Safety Officer in formulating and presenting policy recommendations to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Metro Board of Directors on the overall safety and security of the agency, including system security, public safety, and/or related environmental security issues
Provides direction on comprehensive transportation security needs related as well as security design reviews to identify and mitigate hazards in facilities, systems, and equipment design and implementation
Prepares and presents written and oral reports to executive management, the Board of Directors, outside agencies, and the public
Assesses and monitors workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identifies opportunities for improvement; directs and implements changes
Represents Metro on system safety, security and continuity of operations, r at meetings, conferences, and public events
Provides guidance, coaching, mentoring, training, and oversight for development of staff
Ensures that System Security and Public Safety programs, and plans follow applicable laws, rules, codes and regulations; resources are effectively managed; and corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner to ensure compliance

A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a two-for-one year basis. A typical combination includes:
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Engineering, Public Administration, Business, Accounting, in a related field; Master′s Degree in a related field preferred
Experience
Five years of relevant executive management-level experience administering programs and plans in law enforcement and/or Public Safety for a public agency
Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
