Job Summary
Performs clerical accounting duties in the areas of payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable to assist in processing the financial transactions of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Examines invoices received for accuracy and completeness of information provided
  • Verifies quantities, amounts, and prices indicated on invoices for authorization with the Purchase Order System
  • Enters vendor invoice data, including identification numbers, quantities, amounts, and dates into the Accounts Payable System
  • Identifies errors in purchasing or receiving information for correction on purchase orders
  • Researches payment records to verify outstanding/delinquent billing invoices, and prepares invoices for billing purposes
  • Prepares statements of accounts for outstanding Accounts Receivable invoices
  • Enters, updates, and retrieves billing data from accounting information system
  • Reviews Customer Services Centers' fare media daily sales report worksheets and sales deposit slips for completeness and accuracy
  • Reviews, prepares, and balances revenue reports and recap summaries
  • Reviews daily ticket report worksheets for completeness and accuracy
  • Monitors Customer Services Centers′ overages and shortages
  • Compares Customer Services Centers′ deposit slips and daily report entries for errors
  • Compares employee deduction reports with third party checks for accuracy
  • Sets up employee payroll pay card and employee direct deposit
  • Inputs data from payroll time and leave adjustment forms, deduction updates, cancelled checks, advances and refunds, and settlement agreements into the payroll systems and other accounting information systems
  • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of (defined as a learned body of information that is required for and applied in the performance of job tasks)
  • Basic accounting methods, principles, and practices
  • Clerical accounting functions in the area of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
  • Basic arithmetic
  • Applicable business software applications

Skill in (defined as the proficient manual, verbal, or mental utilization of data, people, or things)
  • Performing clerical accounting duties
  • Performing basic arithmetic computations and tabulating figures with speed and accuracy
  • Understanding, verifying, and posting numerical data
  • Proofreading work, and identifying and correcting errors
  • Interacting professionally and communicating effectively with internal and external customers/ representatives
  • Operating office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, telephones, calculators, and computers with high speed and accuracy
  • Typing at a corrected speed of 40 words per minute

Ability to (defined as a present competence to perform an observable behavior or produce an observable result)
  • Balance journal entries
  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Move objects weighing up to 15 pounds
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive materials and information
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English
Minimum Qualifications
A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:

Education
  • Associate′s Degree in Accounting preferred

Experience
  • Six months of relevant experience performing clerical accounting duties in the areas of payroll, accounts receivable, or accounts payable

Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements
  • Excellent attendance record
